We’re Dave and Jeff, a happily married and retired couple. Until recently, we’ve had one or two dogs and played in a variety of musical ensembles.
Part of Dave’s retirement plan was to travel – not just for an occasional week or two, but for extended periods. That way, we can stay in a place longer and get to know it better. We will also realize more value from the costs of flying across the ocean to another continent by staying longer once we get there.
It’s not practical to do that kind of travel when we own pets and play in numerous bands. Several years ago, we agreed that when our current pets crossed the Rainbow Bridge, we would allow ourselves two years with no pets and no musical commitments, during which we would take these extended trips. That time has come.

During our two years of travel, we’re not interested in seeing major tourist destinations, like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome, and the Acropolis in Athens. We’ve already been to most of those places, and they’re way too crowded anyway. Nor are we interested in cathedrals, ancient fortresses, and typical tourist destinations like beaches and resorts.

Instead, we want to visit less touristy cities and towns to experience the local culture, cuisine, and character. We want to explore the local museums, parks, and architecture. We want to visit places with natural scenic beauty or unique features. We plan to spend several days in each place, not rush from one place to the next on a tight schedule.
We’ll post pictures, and we’ll also share our impressions of each place and our experiences with longer, slower travel.
